Personal profile

Shalini is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing with a PhD in ‘Stakeholders participation and representations in region branding: The case of Northamptonshire, UK’. Her research investigates stakeholder collaboration and community participation in Place Branding governance and decision making.

She has presented her research at various conferences including the Academy of Marketing and Corfu Symposium on Managing and Marketing Places.

She teaches on various UG modules: Brand Management, Marketing Research and Responsible, Ethical and Sustainability Communications. In her first year of teaching at ̽»¨ÏµÁÐ, Shalini was nominated for the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award (VCDTA) for providing outstanding feedback to students.

She is currently supervising two PGR students.

She is one of the Co-Chairs for ̽»¨ÏµÁÐ's Women Staff Network and Co-Lead for Education for Sustainable Development.

Previously, Shalini worked as a Brand Manager and Content Strategist for global brands and SMEs in India. Her academic background is in BSc Visual Communication and MA Design and Branding Strategies.

Research interests/expertise

Her research expertise is in Place Branding, particularly enquiring stakeholder roles, participatory processes and issues of inclusivity and legitimacy. She is interested in further exploring the diversity and inclusivity of place-based campaigns and policies, and influence of media (video games and social media) on place brand perceptions.

  • RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT ENHANCEMENT FUND (2020) - Received £500 funding to organise the pioneering event for PGR Careers and Professional Development.
  • ACADEMY OF MARKETING DC BURSARY (2019) - Received a competitive attendance bursary for the Doctoral Colloquium of the Academy of Marketing.
  • GRADUATE SCHOOL RESEARCH POSTER COMPETITION (2018) - Runner-up of the Research Poster Competition in my first year of PhD studies.
  • INTERNATIONAL PLACE BRAND ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE (2017) - Received an attendance bursary as a student reporter for The Place Brand Observer. In this role, I published articles on the topic of place branding and the conference highlights.
